All of Me

Teetering tall, she grasps my arm
and lay her head on my shoulder
with bashful smile;

my eyes crinkle, welled.

And I wish for the clock in the corner
to stop, for this moment to be tucked
into the pocket of my heart

and so I make it.

Turning, I smile back
and I am with her.
I am not with my long list

I am with her.

all of me.

For how is she to taste sacrifice
if it is not first shown here
and isn't this a glimpse of God's love

by a mother for her child?

"And so I make it..." I love that.

What a beautiful and doable thing that is so simple and so impactful!

I really, really love this. I wish I could say I feel this all the time, but too often I allow myself to get caught up in my "list" and ignore the sweet miracle-child sitting at my feet. I know I miss far too many moments like this. Thanks for the reminder to keep pressing "pause," so I don't miss out - and so I teach my daughter sacrifice (as you said so perfectly). Thank you for sharing.

this is lovely - and so true - as a mother there are many moments to be tucked into the pockets of our heart..
