For Me

Feeling very grateful....

I see her coming from far off hill
stumbling, holding the hand of steady

I hear her laugh like the sound of
bells, happy against setting sun

and she gives clutching flowers
special-picked by little hands

to someone more able to keep
protected from steep hill peril

Understanding is a flood and I
wait for her come to find me.

running through the gate, little
hands once again grasp bundle

and with hands behind and smile
wide and eyes brimming with sparkle,

"Which hand, Mom?" She asks with
bursting voice and I point to that one.

outstretched and full of proud
she hands me bouquet of beauty

picked carefully among hillside green
each one chosen and pulled, for----me.

And as I think of all the roles I fill
or lack to fill.  Or stumble into--

This is the one that really matters.
The one of flower-admirer.

Kid-encourager.

Laugh-partner.

Enjoying life--

Together.

I am here.

Georgia Reese: Taking Modeling Lessons?

August 2009:

We suspect that Georgia Reese is secretly enrolled in the Derek Zoolander Center for Kids Who Can't Read Good (And Who Wanna Learn Other Good Stuff, Too).  Familiar looks keep popping up in the camera.  You decide for yourself:

Update: May 31, 2013

Not much has changed here, 3.5 years later.  She is still enrolled and scoring, as you can see, at the top of her class.  These shots were taken on a recent camping trip.  What a goofball!

Bike Train at HP

Our girls got to "Bring Your Inventor Day" with Brian at HP each year.

This year they were very excited and no, it wasn't because they got to get out of normal school for the day.  ;o)

This year, our family bike was on display at the event.

We were asked to make a poster and explain a bit about how the bike came to be.

What would you make for a poster to be hung at an event held at a multi-national information systems corporation?

Well, I'm not sure what you would do, but Wieber girls love sharpies, so that is what we did.  We colored our poster.  I heard through the grapevine that it stuck out like a sore thumb...hopefully in a good way.

I venture to say that it had more texture and variance than the other posters created.  :o)  And I don't think markers and pencils should ever become extinct.

Here is a picture of our poster:

Here they are, proudly, by the best ever family transportation vehicle and time spender EVER:

And here is a pic of us a couple of Summers ago.  We practically live on this thing in the Summer and love every sore rear-end minute of it!

Her Feet Don't Reach

her feet don't reach
but her smile does
way beyond
the border of the path

she points her chin
to the sky to look into
eyes which have seen
6 more years than she

peering into a mirror of
fair resemblance
and drinking in
her tender love of life

and tries with might
to be like a sister big
she runs to catch her
and the grown sister turns

with arms open wide
to bring her along for the ride
even though
her feet don't reach

joy is found in the
adoring smile
that reaches beyond
the border of the path

Liv's Bookshelf

These are some of our 9-year-old's favorites. She's found them various places....the thrift shop, a discarded box of "Free Books" along a sidewalk, etc.  The crazy thing is...she really reads them. I love this girl.

Cigar Box Guitar

She's been askin' and askin' for daddy to make her one, and this Christmas, she got her wish.

Georgia Reese can be seen belting out tunes and jamming to her hearts content every weeknight here from 7-9.

And she pretty much rocks the cigar box guitar.

Also included: what every little girl wants--a latch to hold things in her cigar box.  Right now, there would be housed inside a hairbrush and fruity flavored bubblegum (NOT of the A.B.C. variety.  For those of you who were not privileged enough to have an 80's childhood, A.B.C. means Already Been Chewed).
